Ok so you might find the next few links interesting. These are from around the web, just random snippets that I’ve picked up in my reading, but I found some very cool information in them. You might too. Here goes…

A Scrapbooking Home Based Business is on the rise, so congratulations to you for looking into starting a scrapbooking business! The following tips and advice are sure to be helpful as you pursue your own business.

There are many opportunities available for a scrapbooking home based business these days. To begin, though, you have to think in terms of where the market is for your business. Themes play an important role in scrapbooking. You may want to specialize in one type or prefer to provide a wide variety. Some themes to consider for your home based business are:

Weddings

Pregnancy

Military

Sports

High school years

Retirement

Graduations

Careers

Elementary school years

Engagements

Vacations

Parties

As you can see from this list, practically any event in a person’s life is material for a scrapbook-which is great news for those who have a scrapbooking business. One woman specializes in making scrapbooks for the kindergartners at the elementary school near her home. And there’s a man who has an extremely successful scrapbooking home business where he only does military scrapbooks for veterans.

If you’re already into making scrapbooks, then you know about all the exciting new products available for scrapbooking businesses. Beautiful and fun papers are just the beginning. And the scrapbook covers are often works of art. Which is the point. When you’re preserving someone’s memories through your scrapbooking home business, you’re an artist and should think of yourself as one.

Anyone can throw some pictures, letters, postcards, and the like into a scrapbook. People who want the services of a scrapbooking business, however, are looking for more. They want scrapbooks that are more than just things flung between the covers of a scrapbook to show their family members and friends.

Once you’ve thought about and decided that you do want a scrap booking business, you need to think about the actual business part if you want it to be a successful scrap booking business.

You’ll need to devise a business plan that lays out the steps you need to take to get your scrapbooking business going and to ensure it grows once you’re in the process of starting a scrapbooking business. As you start your business plan, ask yourself these questions:

Do I want to do this part-time or full-time?

Are there any supplies or equipment I need to buy?

Will I need financial assistance to get my scrapbooking home based business going?

What type of scrapbooks do I want to provide?

Are my skills and talents suitable for this business?

Should I have a partner?

How much should I charge for my services?

Is there a market for my scrapbooking home based business in my area?

Are there any zoning regulations for my neighborhood that could prevent my having a home business?

Should I get a business license?

Would it be a good idea for me to take a scrapbooking course before I begin the process of starting a scrapbooking home business?

What sort of accounting system will I need?

How do I charge and plan for taxes?

What’s the competition doing in my area?

How will I market and advertise my scrapbooking home business?

Should I think about incorporating my business?

Where do I want my scrapbooking home business to be in six months?

What is the goal I want to achieve through my scrapbooking business?

These are some of the many questions anyone thinking of starting a scrap booking home business should ask themselves and plan for. Getting the “business” details nailed down and in place before you actually begin your scrap booking home business will be invaluable to you as you proceed. It will give you much less to worry about and allow you to thoroughly enjoy making scrapbooks for your clients. And, after all, that’s what your scrap booking home business is all about!

My scrapbook club met last night and they made two 12 x 12 scrapbook layouts. My hostess this month, Cassandra, didn't make a request for a theme, stamp set or Big Shot die but I did manage to get her… … I also used my Big Shot to die- cut the letters for the title and used a snowflake punch for the "o" in snow. It is shimmery because I added dazzling diamonds to the punch with my 2-way glue pen. IMG_7577 [640x480]. Do you notice the other Big Shot die in the photo …

Have a great day!

1f50

Recently I received a wonderful gift from my daughter. A living scrapbook showing my grandchildren from their birth until now. This gift meant so much to me that I ended up becoming a scrapper and love the whole idea of scrapbooking your precious memories. As time has gone by I have increased my collection of books on scrapbooking and slowly collected all the tools I think are needed for scrapbooking. The great thing about scrapbooking is that anyone can do it, the ideas are endless and your subject for the book or page can be on anything.

I recently saw a great little movie called “New in Town” starring Renee Zellweger. The story basically is Zellweger a consultant in love with her Miami lifestyle is sent to the middle of nowhere in Minnesota to oversee the restructuring of a blue collar manufacturing plant. Along the way meets these quirky townfolk who loves include scrapping and slowly warms up to the small town’s charm, and eventually finds herself being accepted by this funny community. Eventually she’s ordered to close down the plant and put the entire community out of work and in this time reconsiders her goals and priorities, and finds a way to save the town.

There was one particular scene that peaked my interest in the movie and that was when Zellweger’s character was given a Christmas present by her secretary. When she opened the present it was a scrapbook of her arrival at this strange little town. It had photos and messages in it and you could see Zellweger’s icey character melt and really appreciate this beautifully handmade gift.

Strangely enough this got me thinking. I love scrapbooking, its a great hobby for all the family, and people LOVE scrapbooking. Handmade gifts and in particular scrapbooking items are from the heart and when it comes to special gifts for great occasions these forms of gifts are often the most treasured. Then the Light bulb blinked on above my head.

There must be a market for these handcrafted gifts for things such as wedding books, birthday books, anniversaries and many others. There must be a way to turn what I love doing into an income and sure enough there is. I found a number of great websites detailing how to start your own genuine income from scrapbooking. Its not as hard as you may think.

Its a funny thing when you think about it. Starting any form of small business can be very expensive and you usually go broke very quickly. But think about this for a second. What cost do you have? You have most items you need anyway for scrapbooking as a hobby, What more could you really need? That right nothing. All you really need the guidance on the right way to go that suits you.

I have had the fortune of working through a scrabooking program by Richard Mann called “Scrapbooking a profitable business” where he details the fundamentals of establishing ways of making scrapbooking work for you including setting up a website, the various pros and cons of different forms of advertising, where to advertise. The book written in a way that can be easily understood is an informed guide to earning an income from scrapbooking.

A similar e-book program available is “Scrapbooking for profit” from Brett McFall. This is a similar format to Scrapbooking for a profitable business, however this program explores a more aggressive approach to marketing and developing a small business in scrapbooking. Look this approach wont suit everyone, and shows ways of earning a very good income from scrapbooking. This also requires a lot more work and could take the fun out of scrapbooking.

Both these strategies have worked for me over in developing an income from scrapbooking. I have been able to enjoy my hobby and get a little money to buy more stock and equipment along the way. Again this has suited me and I use this as a supplementary income, you may wish to got to a different level and that will require much more work on your behalf. I have also met some nice people along the way when making an item for them through a consignment job or when they buy basic item.

These programs (books) are around $30.00 to purchase and have various bonus items when you purchase. Overall I have found this a very small price for the knowledge they do bring. Again there are many other Websites detailing similar ways to earn money from scrapbooking. Have a look at the sites that are recommended and have a look yourself on the web at others, there really is something out there that would suit your needs. Keep and open mind ang give it a go, why not turn your hobby into a real income that the entire family can help and earn with.

Ok so you might find the next few links interesting. These are from around the web, just random snippets that I’ve picked up in my reading, but I found some very cool information in them. You might too. Here goes…

Christmas Jingle Simply Scrappin’ Kit – Jan’s Stamping Creations

I used one Christmas Jingle Simply Scrappin' Kit (115696, page 165) and was able to make six Scrapbook pages and 21 cards with a few die cuts left over. The kit comes with 8 sheets of 12" x 12" textured card stock in Chocolate Chip, …

Dies Scrapbook Album | Infinitive Designs Scrapbooking

There are 48 die-cut openings to frame favorite photos, and special pages to record captions. The unique cover design features a festive shadowbox. It has a burgundy/ holly branch themed cover design. …

Fathers Day Scrapbook Theme Ideas and Tips | News Direct Blog

·Arrange the scrapbook elements in such a way that it is not crowded. A page that is covered in many pictures may crowed the page leaving the viewer overwhelmed. ·Place embellishments on your page – stickers, die cuts, rubber stamps and …

Have a great day!

Where is the best place to find cheap scrapbooking supplies?

I absolutely LOVE scrapbooking, but the more I look for supplies, the more I see that they aren't all so cheap!

My favorite things to use are the raised stickers, as well as all the interesting pattern cutouts you find in kits. Is there any place that sells scrapbooking supplies at a fairly cheap price? My scrapbook is only 2 pages long because I don't have a good variety, lol.

Thanks for any help

Circles from bottles tips etc. EXACTLY a circle.

I hope you’ve been enjoying my posts lately. I thought I might do something different today and rustle up a few bits of info from around the WWW. These are some of the news items and blog posts that have been popular over the last few weeks. Leave me your thoughts.

A Civil Conversation About Scrapbooking: Which Tool Was a Waste?

I'm constantly amazed and overwhelmed by the abundance of scrapbooking tools. Some I could use and others elicit wishful thoughts. Die-cuts have a love/hate relationship with scrapbookers, especially those who are published. …

How to Make a School Scrapbooking Border | Hobbies

If they are really good at music, then of use musical notes or die cuts of their favorite instrument as part of a school page border. Sports enthusiasts also have many items you might use as a school scrapbooking border. …

Shoestring Scrapbooking: Some More Cards – 3D Stickers & Die Cuts

I used the 3D Stickers (Orchids) on this card – I know Mom will love this one! I used K & Company's Que Sera Sera Die Cut Card-stock & Acetate on the cards below.

Hope you enjoy the read as much as I did and please if you have something to say, use the comments form below to let everyone know your thoughts.

Have a great day!

Scrap booking has come a long way both in perception and execution. I remember, as a child, when my mother bought me my first scrap book and together we enjoyed the exhilaration of cutting out pictures from comic and other magazines and pasting them in it. We would visit innumerable scrap book stores in search of punches that never seemed to suffice.

Later, as years passed, and ready-made cutouts started to appear in the shops, we would buy Mickey, Popeye, Donald and a host of other such cutouts to paste in our scrapbook I regret that the scrapbook hobby was fast disappearing with children becoming more engrossed with video games and other online forms of entertainment.

It is at this juncture that Provo craft pioneered an electronic cutting system called Cricut Expression Machine that re- energized the scrapbook hobby into a fascinating phobia with unlimited possibilities. The features of this machine helped to merge scrap booking with product stamping. It delivered cut outs in any color, shape, size and font you could wish for, thus signaling the possibilities of immense and wide ranging applications to your hobby.

It is a noteworthy fact that the Cricut Machine is self supportive and works independently without a computer or printer. Assuming that your Expression Machine is in place, you would need to insert a Cricut cartridge into it to make it function. These cartridges, similar to disc drives in computers, store a wealth of die cut information from which you can select the ones you want to print out.

Help with scrapbook organization?

In the PSB for example, do you have your stickers in some order…such as by season, holiday, etc…or do you just have them in size order (according to how they fit in the different sized sheets?

I am trying to figure out how get better organized. I buy things and then forget that I have them. Like, I have all my die cuts together, and all my brads together…and so forth, but I'm thinking maybe they should be separated in some other rational way…such as by holiday, season, etc….Does anyone have any good organizing system that they use?

Scrapbooking is a popular hobby that people enjoy because it makes them feel like they’ve accomplished something important. Even though it takes time and work to create a scrapbook, the end product is a beautiful heirloom your family can enjoy for years to come. And scrapbooking is a great way to express your creativity and individuality in a new art form.

Scrapbooking is also popular because it’s easy to do. Just about anyone can assemble their favorite photos and memorabilia into a scrapbook. But many serious “scrappers” try to make their scrapbooks a personal masterpiece.

A scrapbook is so much more than a collection of photos and keepsakes. It’s a rich storybook that lets you express how you think and feel about the events and people in your life. It reflects what you think is important about your life and what made you the person you are. It’s much more than a journal or diary because it uses a carefully-planned, beautifully organized collection of text, photographs, and keepsakes to tell the whole story visually.

The colors you use and the textures you choose communicate to your viewer, too. They tell them about your joys and sorrows. The total package of your handmade scrapbook is a piece of your history that simple photos can’t reveal.

So now that you know what a rewarding hobby scrapbooking is, you may want to know how to get the materials and supplies. Fortunately, there are many scrapbooking stores that sell a wide variety of supplies and tools for scrapbooking. Here are some of the materials you can find at your scrapbooking store:

1. Books. Your local scrapbooking or craft store sells books and magazines with logs of tips and advice on putting a scrapbook together. They offer tips on what to include in your scrapbook and offer great advice on color schemes and how to lay your items out for best effect. They contain inspiring ideas about scrapbooking themes and great quotations you can use to emphasize your thoughts and feelings about your scrapbook’s contents.

2. Materials. Scrapbooking stores and the scrapbook departments of craft stores carry many different types of material to help you make a beautiful work of art. The basic pieces include paper and coordinated paper sets, press-on borders and alphabets, frames for photos and mementos, fabric swatches, and other pieces no scrapbook should be without.

The stores also carry many different add-on supplies that will add sparkle and personality to your scrapbook. These include felt cutouts and die-cuts, stickers, foam, ribbons and lace, and many other accessories to make your scrapbook a creative masterpiece.

3. Tools. You’ll need a set of tools to prepare and affix your pieces to your Scrapbook pages. You can keep it simple with scissors, tape, and pens. You can purchase specialty tools like paper cutters and hole punches with special cutting patterns and shapes. And every scrapper must have the right glue!

Scrapbooking stores offer a few more items that have no cost but can be priceless. They’re usually staffed by scrappers who love the hobby and know a lot about it. You can get lots of free advice and guidance from them. And the people who shop there are likely to be scrapbooking pros who can help you through challenges and suggest novel solutions that will be perfect for your scrapbooking project.

In addition to advice and guidance, scrapbooking stores are a great place for scrappers to meet and get to know each other. Scrapbooking can be a lonely pursuit. You may need the opportunity to meet and chat with others who share your passion for scrapbooking. You can make new friends and share tales about your scrapbooking experiences. You can keep up on each other’s progress. You can plan scrapbooking parties and events. In short, scrapbooking stores are great places to expand your social life!

Because the hobby is so popular, there are entire retail stores devoted to scrapbooking. But you can also find large scrapbooking departments in other types of retail stores: craft stores are certain to have what you need. National chains you might recognize include Michaels (or M.J. Designs), Jo-Ann Fabrics and Crafts, and AC Moore. Your community will likely have independent and mom-n-pop stores that cater to your scrapbooking needs as well.

Online stores are very popular and easy to find. You won’t get the face-to-face interaction, but many offer advice and tutorial-type instructions for scrapbookers. They also offer blogs and forums for exchange with other scrappers.

Die Cut Machines or Personal Cutters?

Hi, I have no knowledge with either of these. My husband was looking for something to help me cut projects out and saw die cutting machines, but before I plunk down $ I wanted to know if it would work for me.
I host a playgroup weekly (2-5yrs) and I'm always cutting templates for different crafts for the kids, ( most often from dltk kids.com,6 sets of each craft every week)
This is hard for me since I have a mild form of Cerebral Palsy.
When I saw the Crayola Cutter I purchased that, but my hands are to shakey for it to be helpful. So I'm back to scissors, takes me forever to cut things out.

Any advice? Is there a product that would help me?

I live in Korea and will briefly be in Tokyo and Yokohama this month. I am looking for scrapbooking supplies such as decorated pages, stickers and die-cuts. This is not a known hobby in Seoul but I am hoping that Japan has caught on since I was there 10 years ago. I know about the international order sites. I am just looking to peruse in an actual store.

Scrapbooks are the perfect place for preserving your timeless memories. They can document your family history and preserve the joy of celebrations and gatherings. They can include your descriptions of events and people, adding to the personal nature of a scrapbook. And they can last a lifetime or two if you use the proper materials.

Parents use scrapbooks to record their children’s early years by collecting photos, report cards, artwork, letters, articles, and announcements that tell the child’s story. They assemble precious treasures in one place, eliminating the need for chaotic shoe boxes full of memorabilia mixed with junk.

If you have some time, why not make scrapbooking a family project. It will give you hours of conversation talking about events that your photos and memories recall. It will fine-tune everyone’s creativity and imagination. It will bring you closer together in a world where busy schedules often drive you apart.

Ideas for Your First Scrapbooking Project

If you want to create a scrapbook around your child’s keepsakes, here are the steps you’ll want to follow:

1. Go through your keepsakes to select the special ones you want to keep forever. Toss what you don’t want to keep, and mount your treasures on textured paper, a thin mat, or heavy-weight fabric.

2. Get some paper clips, ribbons, tassels, buttons, dried flowers, and other small objects to use to embellish your pages.

3. Attach a note to each keepsake that describes it. What event does it represent? Who gave it to them? How was it used? As your children to add their own notes about it.

4. Make a title for the scrapbook using your own handmade cut-out letters or find stencils or stick-on letters. Use it for the cover of the scrapbook and for special pages you want to highlight.

5. Now, order your photos and memorabilia the way you want to present it in your scrapbook. You may want to keep things in chronological order, or you may want to group them according to some other theme like your child’s favorite subjects or talents.

6. After you know what order you want things in, decide on how you want to lay them out. Page by page, just place them without glue until you find the perfect arrangement. To make it more fun for the whole family, let people try different things and then vote on the “best” arrangement.

7. Now, glue the items onto your pages. Let them sit for a while to ensure the glue dries properly, and then assemble them in your album.

Your finished product is a wonderful story-telling scrapbook that tells your children how important they really are to you. It’s a treasure of memories you’ll want to revisit time and time again. When your child goes to college or gets married, it will be a precious special gift of love.

After you have some experience with scrapbooking, you’ll want to move on to more sophisticated methods. You can use a wide variety of items to decorate and add interest to your pages. Your theme, color scheme, design, layout, and embellishments will tie your memorabilia together in a beautiful elegant format.

Creating a More Sophisticated Scrapbook

When you’re ready to move on to your next project, here are some things you’ll need to remember to create a sophisticated, elegant scrapbook:

1. Choose materials that reflect a classic color scheme. Your color scheme can reflect a theme (like red, white, and blue for patriots; beige, sand, turquoise, and salmon for that Santa Fe look; or different shades of blue for the sky or ocean). The combinations are limited only by your imagination. Be sure that the entire scrapbook maintains your color scheme, including your embellishments like buttons, die-cuts, and stick-ons.

2. Layer your papers and fabrics to add interest and impact and to create a fluid, interactive effect.

3. Use straight classic lines to create a balanced, organized effect. Or use curves and classic shapes to soften your pages. Whichever you choose, be consistent. Don’t use straight lines on one page and curves on the next.

4. Be sure your colors blend well with the photos and memorabilia to maintain a unified look and feel.

5. Don’t overload your pages with bulky embellishments. Keep as shallow a dimension as you can without letting your scrapbook become boring. You can use charms, thin foam, lace, ribbons, alphabet tiles, and tassels to add dimension. But don’t overdo it. You don’t want to detract from the main pieces – your photos and memorabilia.

6. If your photos already have a common theme or design, be sure that your scrapbook reflects the same theme. Your added touches should complement your memories, not distract viewers from them.

Making Tassels to Brighten Up your Scrapbook

Tassels are favorite scrapbooking embellishments. Used often by those with the artistic touch, they include embroidery thread, yarns, loose threads, straw, cords, or raffia. They’re great for scrapbooking, and they’re perfect for other projects like scarves, bookmarks, knitting, pillows, afghans, and draperies. You can find tassels at home craft or fabric stores, but you can make them yourself to assure they’re unique. To make your own tassels, follow these simple steps:

1. Get a piece of cardboard cut to the size you want for your tassel.

2. Wrap your tassel material (thread, yarn, etc.) around the cardboard many times. Make it as thick or as thin as you want your finished tassel to be. Use materials consistent with your color theme. You can mix colors or use only one.

3. Use a long piece of yarn (or ribbon or thread) around the cardboard, about an inch from one end of the cardboard, and tie it off loosely.

4. Gently remove the cardboard and draw the long tie off up to make a tight knot. Now, wrap more of your material around the knotted tie-off to give it strength and texture.

5. Use a thread to tie off the 1″ end of the tassel and attach to an anchor or hook.

6. Clip the folded long end of the tassel to create loose threads, and trim the ends to give a clean, even look.

You have created your own tassel. For using in y our scrapbook, you’ll want your tassel to be thinner, enough to create dimension without being bulky. For other projects, the thickness is up to you!

We’ve outlined the basic steps to creating a basic scrapbook and to bring it up a notch. We’ve shown you how to create your own tassels. Keep in mind that these are basic steps and suggestions, not hard-and-fast rules.

Scrapbooking is an individual art, an expression of your personality. If you want to bend or even break these rules, feel free! The point is creating an object of beauty that expresses your personal uniqueness and that presents your memories in a well-coordinated beautiful package.

Digital scrapbook kits are becoming the craft hobby of the future. Instead of dealing with sticky glues and tapes and cutting and pasting to create that perfect scrapbook layout, you now have the option to create your entire scrapbook through digital means. There are hundreds of different digital Scrapbooking sites online today and each of them offer their own version of digital scrapbook kits to help you create an online masterpiece that you and your child can appreciate for years to come.

These digital Scrapbooking websites that can be found online today do charge fees for use of their digital scrapbook software and templates but many find the investment to be far less than collecting all the small accessories and scrapbook accessories from a craft store. It can take some time to find the right digital scrapbook website for you and one of the features you will want to make sure they offer is the option of using a digital scrapbook kit. These online kits are quite similar to the kits you find in the stores today, except of course everything is digital and virtual.

If you are not interested in finding one of these digital scrapbook websites to help you create the perfect baby album for your child, than you can buy your own Scrapbooking software to install on your PC. This software can be found anywhere software applications are sold and they can be a lot of fun. You do not have to be a computer whiz to use this great software, anyone can do it. What many people are doing with their digital scrapbooks is downloading them into a digital picture frame so everyone can constantly enjoy the work you have done and you can easily share the memories of your baby’s first words, steps and more!

The effects that can be used through this digital craft are unbelievable! You no longer have to agonize over using the die cuts properly or how to arrange your pictures on the page because with digital scrapbook kits you have the ability to change and rearrange as many times as you want, nothing is permanent! Whether it takes you 5minutes to complete your first page layout or 2weeks, it is a different type of fun that cannot be duplicated with the real Scrapbooking procedures.

A digital scrapbook kit will contain directions for using all the features in the kit, examples of how to begin your first digital scrapbook experience and of course thousands of templates, accessories and decorative effects that look exactly like the real thing, but better! It will not take long for you to learn how to use these digital scrapbook kits and software, they have been made to be completely user friendly so that you can spend hours working on your baby’s scrapbook album with the ability to edit and alter the pages even after you think you have finished!

For many beginners, learning how to use digital scrapbook kits is a great way to cherish your memories because you have the ability to test out your creative skills and change anything you don’t like!

What kind of papers are scrapbook papers?

A regular 11 x 8.5 white printing paper is thinner than scrapbook papers. I want to buy a 11 x 8.5 white papers but I want it to feel as thick as scrapbook papers (though scrapbook papers aren't that thick, it's still thicker than a regular white paper). Do you know any brand of papers I should buy that is a bit thicker than regular white printing papers? I feel like making my own scrapbook papers but the regular white printing papers are a bit thin. Thanks for your help!
